What's free, and what tokens pay for
The free AI does everything. Nobody's missing out.
Every character, every language, every word history and every feature on Slangerator works on the free Standard AI. Both AIs are smart. Think of the free Standard AI as a sharp college graduate, and Premium as a Nobel Prize winner. A college grad writes great slang, jokes and fancy sentences; you call in the Nobel winner when you want a poem worth framing.

Voices: free robot voice, or the real character voices
Every line can be read out loud two ways:

Each character's voice was custom-designed, and the studio charges us every time one speaks. That's the real cost of running Slangerator, so it's what tokens mostly pay for. Once a clip is made, replaying it is free.
So what does Premium AI actually add?
Small things you notice when you read closely:
- Punchlines land a little more often.
- The slang varies a bit more, so characters repeat themselves less.
- Other languages sound a bit more natural.
- In Say it fancy, the new words fit a little more precisely.
- Poetry is where Premium shines most. Sonnets, slam poems and rhymes come out noticeably richer, with better rhythm, rhyme and imagery. If you write poems, this is the place to use it.
For everyday slang, the free AI is all you need. Premium is the same app with the same characters, just a finer brush, and the difference shows most when the writing gets ambitious.
For parents: what am I paying for?
Honestly? Your kid doesn't need Premium AI to have fun or to learn. If you want to spend anything, here's what tokens buy, in order of what kids actually notice:
- Premium voices (most fun). Each character speaking in their own real voice. Everyone gets one free a day; after that, about 5 tokens a clip.
- Premium AI (optional). 3 tokens for a slightly sharper answer. Nice for a clip they're proud of, not needed for everyday use.
A $5 pack is 500 tokens: about 100 voice clips, or a mix. Tokens never expire, there's no subscription, and with a Family account you set a daily allowance so they can't overspend.
Why charge for Premium at all?
Every answer costs us money to make. The Premium AI costs us about 40 times more per answer than the Standard AI. Three tokens covers that cost, and nothing more. We don't make Premium better by making the free version worse, and we never will.
